Human Rights Groups will Protest the 10th Anniversary of Guantanamo and the 2012 NDAA at The Jackson Federal Building in Seattle, WA on Jan 11, 2012, 5-6 PM

On January 11, 2011 the Washington State Religious Campaign Against Torture, Amnesty International, Western Washington Fellowship of Reconciliation and Code Pink Washington will be holding a candlelight vigil from 5-6 pm, on sidewalk outside of the Jackson Federal Building, 2nd avenue between Madison and Marion, downtown Seattle.

This vigil is being held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the arrival of the first prisoners to Guantanamo Bay.

They are gathering to "Protest indefinite imprisonment without charges," at Guantanamo Bay military base where., "171 prisoners remain".

Their statement, which is available at http://stopustorture.blogspot.com also claims that, "Many (detainees) have been cleared of any role in combat." and that "Hardly any have been charged with a crime."

They are also gathering to "Protest Congress's action to "legalize" indefinite detention without charges or trial" Which they feel have been codified into law by the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012.

The NDAA is an annual act of congress that sets US military policy and sets the military budget amongst other things.

The NDAA has been very controversial this year because its language many people feels allows the government to hold American citizens in military detention "without trial until the end of hostilities authorized by the Authorization for Military Force."
